I've been hearing quite a bit about the food truck trend here in Minneapolis. Last summer seemed to be the start of it all. Next thing you know, the Food Network has a reality competition show about them. Finally this summer I'm catching on to the buzz...
One of the first Minneapolis trucks I heard about was a "just as good as on the East coast" Lobster Roll truck. I may have heard of other trucks before this, but my selective hearing could only hone in on the word "Lobster". Needless to say, I've been researching the Smack Shack for some time now, and finally had an opportunity to try it myself this week. I walked a few blocks out of the way, waited 15 minutes to order, another 12 to get the food, then walked the few blocks to my car only to drive another 20 minutes back to work. It total, I didn't get my first bite until a half hour after getting my grubby hands on it. That's dedication. That's restraint. That's a full-blown foodie at heart.
I must tell you that the $12 I spent on this sandwich was worth every penny. There was so much lobster in this roll that it got me thinking "these guys have to be losing money on this". Heck, I can't even shell a lobster without messing it up. The menu was simple, but to the point. Lobster Roll, King Crab Roll, 'Po Boy Shrimp sandwich, 'Po Boy Sausage Sandwich, and I think Clam chowder. I don't know what I'll get next...too many good choices!
Be sure to check the Smack Shack out by following their location on Twitter or Facebook. And if you're not in the Twin Cities, start researching what's going on in your town!
Look at all this lobster! My camera phone couldn't even do it justice.
